Earthwatch

Shamita’s first charitable endeavour was a collaboration with Earthwatch. Having always been passionate about the environment, she loves the idea of a Tiny Forest – a fast-growing ‘super-forest’, densely packed with native species, providing much-needed carbon capture and biodiversity benefits for urban areas. In 2022, in partnership with Earthwatch and the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, she funded the creation of her own Tiny Forest, dedicating it to the memory of her parents. The photographs above show how wonderfully the trees are growing!

Calcutta Rescue

For many years, Shamita had the idea of creating a school for disadvantaged children from the streets and slums of India. Her second charitable project, in collaboration with Calcutta Rescue and many other donors, was the realisation of this dream. In 2024, a new education centre for the underprivileged, ‘Jack Dadur Paathshala’ – named after Dr. Jack Preger MBE, the founder of Calcutta Rescue – opened its doors. Shamita’s funding enabled the creation of a new classroom, a ‘Maker’s Space’ – a place for creativity and innovation – as well as rooftop solar installation, and inspiring artwork that adorns the walls of the building.
